A moment of Praise

Finally after a long week I am sitting and taking a momnet to reflect and praise. I wanted to thank everyone who donated, also thanking those who attended the benefit supper where we had a blast. I also wanted to thank our church and other churches who helped make this all possible. We also were blessed with wonderful music on the might of the fundraiser with the celtic band they did a wonderful job!

For all those who are curious we got the bus, we did end up taking out a small loan to replace the tires and front rotor. WOW ever by tires for something that size LOL so we do have 1500 to repay. But, we really needed to be safe. There were some funny things we didn't know like if the vehicle you are trying to register is over 10,000 pounds you need to register commercially. SO we needed to buy and elephant scale, just joking. Another thing is if you are commercial you need triangles the orange kind big trucks use and an ABC fire extinguisher. Did I mention everything cost double also?? SO needless to say it has been an interesting week. But thankfully the bus is at our home ready for almost everyone. The lift is working great. If we have enough money we will go to bangor next week to buy the straps to secure Bobbys wheelchair to the floor.

So this site is staying open so everyone can follow our family through this journey. After the loan is paid off and we buy the straps we will next be saving to make our bathroom handicap accessible. If anyone knows of any programs that help with handicap bathrooms please email me. Thank you.

Thanks again for all our support!

Updates

We did talk to the women selling the bus and a trade is not an option. So, we are looking at raising the full amount of 10800. It is a big task but wouldn't you be ready to try if you were in our shoes. amazing what we would do for our kids, when our hearts are involved it makes us more determined. When I am tired and frustrated I can just look at the struggles Bobby faces with a happy heart everyday. I want to thank everyone for all there support especially your thought and prayers they mean so much to us.

Blessings, Bobby's mom

Also on Thursday an account will be opened at the Savings bank of Maine for anyone local who would like to donate. Thanks so much!

Book-a-thon

We just started a book-a-thon that will run now thur October 24th. If you want to find out how your child can participate you can email me at olivetreehomeschool@yahoo.com. If you would like to sponsor one or more of my children also email me.

How does it work? Well basically you would decide an amount you would like to donate per book my book my child/children read. For our family you have 4 choices Devonte age 12, Bobby age 10, Cheyenne age 7, Savannah age 5. Say you offered to donate $1.00 per book and the child read 10 books you would make a $10.00 donation by either paypal or I can email our address.

If you child wants to participate he/she would ask family and friend to sponser him/her. Then she would read and and be able to donate and help another kid. My kids love being involved in things where they can make a difference. Either way you can email me. Thanks for participating.

Bobby with his brothers and sisters

Please help us raise money for a bus.

I am Bobby's mom, Bobby is a 10 year old boy with Duchenne Muscular dystrophy. http://www.mda.org/publications/fa-dmdbmd-what.html Here is more information from the MDA about his specific dystrophy. Bobby is currently in a wheelchair most of the time. He cruises around the house and enjoys the independence of his power wheelchair.

We have reached a point though where we cannot go out unless someone strong enough to carry Bobby is with us. We currently own a 15 passenger van. Our van is to high for even the longest ramps. If we install a lift in our current van we need to take out 2 seat and that doesn't leave enough room for our family.

So we are asking for you help, we desperately need help raising money for a used bus. We have looked at one that we would like to get. Our goal is to raise $6,000 toward the bus and then trade our van. We need your help! Every little bit counts.
